New Gun Trend for Realtors

In recent years, real estate agents in Texas have increasingly turned to guns for protection as they face the risk of danger when showing homes. As the state's real estate industry continues to grow, agents are finding themselves in potentially dangerous situations more frequently.

In this blog post, we will explore the reasons behind this trend and highlight some examples of attacks on realtors in Texas.  According to a survey by the National Association of Realtors, 38% of Texas agents have experienced a situation that made them fear for their personal safety while on the job. This includes being threatened, verbally or physically assaulted, or encountering potentially dangerous situations. In many cases, agents are alone in a property with strangers who may have unknown intentions, which can be an unsettling and risky situation.

One high-profile case of violence against a real estate agent in Texas occurred in 2015. Beverly Carter, a 50-year-old agent, was showing a home in Little Rock, Arkansas, when she was kidnapped and killed by two clients posing as interested buyers. The tragedy sent shockwaves through the real estate industry and highlighted the risks that agents face while on the job.

Closer to home, a Texas real estate agent was shot and killed in San Antonio in 2016 while showing a property. The agent, who was working alone, was approached by a man who demanded money before shooting her and fleeing the scene. These incidents have raised awareness of the dangers faced by real estate agents and prompted some to take measures to protect themselves, including the purchase of firearms.

Another example of an attack on a real estate agent occurred in 2019, when a Houston-area realtor was robbed and assaulted by two men while showing a home. The agent was beaten and robbed, and the assailants fled the scene. Incidents like this have led some real estate agents to feel that they must be armed in order to protect themselves from potential harm.

Many realtors in Texas are choosing to do so in order to feel more secure.  Carrying a gun provides real estate agents in Texas with a sense of security and the ability to protect themselves if a situation arises. With a firearm, they can feel more confident in their ability to defend themselves in the event of a home invasion or break-in. It is legal for real estate agents to carry a firearm as long as they comply with all applicable regulations.

The trend of real estate agents purchasing guns for protection in Texas is a response to the dangers they face on the job. While the decision to carry a firearm is a personal one, it is important for agents to carefully consider the risks and ensure they are complying with all applicable laws and regulations. The safety of real estate agents is crucial, and measures must be taken to protect them from harm while on the job.
